Mallnitz is part of the Alpine Pearls Network. A small, cozy village at about 1200m altitude. Mallnitz has its own ski area called Ankogel, snow guaranteed with an altitude of + / - 2900m. Besides skiing, Mallnitz is known for its many cross-country trails. Also in summer the gondolas go up. A beautiful starting point for the many hiking trails.

There are plenty of facilities in the village; train station, supermarket, bakery, indoor swimming pool, visitor center, restaurants, cafes, bank, ski rental, and bicycle rental.

The National Park Fest takes place every year on the last Saturday of July. The men in lederhosen and the women in dirndl.

Hohe Tauern is a national park in the province of Carinthia in Austria and is the largest nature reserve of the Austrian Alps.

Hohe Tauern is a mountain range of 120km long and has the highest peaks in Austria. 

The highest mountain is the GrossGlockner (3789m). Absolutely no punishment to visit via the beautiful Gross Glockner Alpen Strasse.

 

Besides the high mountains, Hohe Tauern has many waterfalls which are the highest in Europe. 

Hohe Tauern guarantees a vacation with a balance in action & tranquility. 

Mallnitz is centrally located in Austria close to the German, Italian and Slovenian borders. Easy to reach by train, car (via the Autoschleuse Tauernbahn), and airport (Munich (D), Salzburg (O), Ljubljina (S) ).

 

Cities such as Salzburg, Lienz, Spittal an der Drau and Villach are very easy to drive to for a day trip. 

 

For lovers of water (sports) the Weissensee and Millstätter See are about 1 hour drive away. 
In winter, the alternative Elfstedentocht (ice-skating) is organized  on Lake Weissensee.
